The Halve Maen is the ship with which Henry Hudson made the first contacts in 1609 for the VOC in what is now America. His initial findings would subsequently lead to the foundation of Nieuw Amsterdam, today’s New York.
The model of the Halve Maen is a yacht, a small ship used by 17th-century Dutch skippers to sail the world’s seas to discover new continents.
The kit has laser-cut frames, a full wood package in various sizes for planking and various laser-cut accessories. The model includes rigging, blocks and further accessories. The ornament of the Halve Maen on the transom is 3D printed in grey plastic and needs to be painted in the right color yourself. The included sail set needs to be quilted and finished by yourself. A simple stand is included; a luxury oak stand can be purchased separately.
The box also contains various drawings for the model and the rigging. Instructions are in Dutch, English and German, with text and photos.
The model is in 1 in 50 scale and is available in oak or walnut, with base blocks or authentic blocks for the rigging. The model in the photos is in oak. In terms of colors, the natural wood tones have been taken as far as possible.
