The Maine scow sloop originated in the 19th century and was used as both a fishing and cargo vessel. Its simple design and construction made it easy to build and maintain while its shallow draft, flat bottom, and squared-off bow were practical for cargo handling and beaching without damage.

The weather deck is also lasered, including the butt joints and trunnels. The hull is planked with 1/16″ x 1/4″ bass. Planking follows actual practice – sides longitudinally, bottom transversally.

Overall length is 20” and the scale is ½” = 1’
